A well-known fossil locality southeast of Melbourne. Collecting no longer allowed.
Collected by me over 30 years ago. The quarry is now a small lake surrounded by housing.
Usually referred to as “pyrolusite”, but exact manganese oxide unknown.
Grey thomsonite balls, colourless pseudohexagonal chabazite crystals, and white tufts of gonnardite-natrolite.
The specimen has very good coverage of wavellite, and interestingly some of the back areas of the specimen has wavellite in other colours, light green, and water-clear. Ex Neil Smith collection. 48x30x37mm.
