ncat GTJ2 Otome mine, Kurobera, Kofu City, Kinpuzan mining district, Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan

Labelled as Otome Mine, a name applied generically to material from many different mines in the Kinpuzan mining district. Scheelite specimens in Mindat appear to be from hydrothermal veins, whereas this specimen is clearly from a skarn.

There appears to be a small area of ferberite adjacent to the scheelite which is not unusual. However, the Otome Mine is known for an unusual pseudomorph of ferberite AFTER scheelite!

Below: Composite of four images showing the specimen under white light, shortwave UV (quite strong bluish white response), medium wave (weak creamish response), and longwave (week orange response). Specimen measures 75x60x35mm.
