1.18x.95x.75cm, ex Freiberg Academy. A rare, old time example of this unusual mineral species from Germany. This specimen host a complex, gemmy, colorless crystal of whewellite on a small amount of matrix. The crystal has glassy lustre and sharp faces. Whewellite is one of the small number of naturally occuring organic mineral species and this is the same mineral that is responsible for most kidney stones (and also what makes the leaves of rhubarb poisonous). This old time specimen is from the Freiberg Academy in Germany and retains its original, antique label as well.
