6084 Dolomite, Abbeytown quarry, Ballysadare, Co. Sligo, Ireland

A very nice fully crystalline specimen of light pink dolomite growing free of matrix with just superb crystallization’s growing with minor chalcopyrite and pyrite and measuring 4.5 x 2.7 x 2.4 cm in size. This is a superb specimen of crystalline dolomite in pristine, undamaged condition with the dolomite crystals growing in a fan shaped arrangement. This locality started out as an old silver, lead and zinc mine back in the late 1700’s and the mineralized area was mined out by 1961. Since then the limestone adjacent to the original mine has been quarried. This specimen came out in the early 1990’s when the quarry was working areas on the edge of the mineralized area of the old mine. Since quarrying has moved past this zone, these fine specimens of dolomite have become very scarce.
