1190 Almandine, River Thames, London, UK

A single red crystal collected on the banks of the River Thames by a Mudlarker. These garnets are thought to have originated in South Asia, maybe India, and may have been lost overboard while being transferred from a ship to the shore. They likely date back to the 18th or 19th Century. Hundreds of garnets are found each year, although many are only partial crystals or chips. Width of view 11.5mm. Stack of 30 images.
